What's Happening In 4th Grade?

4th Grade Following Rick Mastracchio

Rick Mastracchio, a Waterbury native, left for the international space station in November of 2013. He is scheduled to stay there to conduct scientific experiments until May of 2014. Lieutenant Robert Cizauskas, PAL Administrative Supervisor, visited our school to talk with our students about the launch. Since the live launch was past most of our students (and teachers) bedtimes, we watched the launch the following day in the cafeteria on the projector. Questions circulated the room from children and adults as we all watched in amazement.

Mastracchio took a geocaching travel bug dog tag with him to space to document his journey on a web page for students and teachers to follow. We have been following Rick on Twitter. Next week our students will have an opportunity to communicate with the astronauts via Skype.

  1. This is really cool! I love how the students get to communicate with the astronauts! It brings it to a whole different level with that. If I were in that class, I would be really excited too! Can't wait to hear more!
